Google AI mode searches personalized answers without hours of clicking. Starting with Google Flight in 2011, it has brought about a significant change in the way users compare airfares. The now-deprecated Trips app was then in a short but failed run in 2016, turning emails into itinerary. By 2019, the dedicated travel section has made bookings, research and planning one hub.
Currently, we'll find an AI mode installed in another tab, but Google is confirming its plans to make it the default experience within next year. This means you can get answers directly from Google itself, not from the brands ranked in the results, “What is the best family-friendly beach in Bali?” or “Where can I ride a cooking class in Milan?”

What is “AI Mode”?
Google's AI Mode – an experimental search feature that allows you to ask complex, multipart questions via the AI interface – began to be first deployed to all users in the week of May 20, 2025, after being announced at Google's annual I/O developer conference. In this short period, this new update has had a major impact on a huge number of businesses and industries, especially the travel sector.
Recently, the company introduced deep search within AI mode. “For questions that require even more thorough response, deep search brings deep research capabilities to AI mode,” Google said in a blog post. “You can publish hundreds of searches, publish reasons beyond a variety of information, and create fully cited reports at the expert level in just a few minutes.
How does Google AI mode affect your travel plans?
Search Engine Land From April 25-26, the AI overview in the travel category has increased by 108.09%, which was found to be driven primarily by a surge in searches for “to do”. “The 'to do' trend is booming – 93.78% of new travel overviews focus on location-specific activities (e.g. [things to do in Buffalo, NY], [things to do in Providence this weekend]) and trigger a destination guide generated in full AI. ”

“This is more than just an AI overview snippet. It's a complete conversation engine designed to mimic the experience of talking to a personal travel agency,” explains Brennen Bliss, CEO of AI First Digital Marketing Agency, a travel and tourism specialist. “My prediction? This will be the default search experience within 12 months, not the 2-3 years that most people expect.”
Can I ask AI Mode to book a flight or hotel?
Google has not yet allowed direct travel bookings via AI mode, but it may change soon. The company is working on another commercial class known internally as Project Mariner, and could ultimately link recommendations to real-time availability and pricing.
