SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) – The Prime Minister’s Office held a morning lecture on artificial intelligence (AI) on Friday, officials said, as tech expert-turned-prime minister Han Sung-sook emphasizes the use of AI in government policies to better serve the public.
Lee Seung-hyun, CEO and founder of AI consulting firm Alpaca Lab and author of the book “AI Wealth of Nations,” lectured Han and other officials on understanding the AI era and establishing strategies to drive AI transformation across the public sector.
At the session, Lee said that AI is more than just a work tool and has entered the era of AI agents, where humans collaborate with AI, and that the Prime Minister’s Office should present a data roadmap and update infrastructure and systems for the public sector to lead the AI transformation.
Han said that AI innovation is no longer an option, but a basic ability of civil servants.
“The Prime Minister’s Office should be the first to understand AI and actively utilize it to establish models for interministerial and policy coordination,” he said. “We should actively utilize AI as a partner in the workplace and think about administrative reforms that the people can feel.”
Han, an information technology expert who served as CEO of online portal giant Naver before joining government last year, has advocated for the use of AI as a top priority and vowed to accelerate AI transformation in the public sector, including expanding trials of AI-driven business systems to all central government agencies by the end of the year.
