Israeli AI Startup DeCart announces real-time video to video conversion tool

After months of forecasts and extensive funding, Israeli Artificial Intelligence Startup Decalt has unveiled its groundbreaking real-time video conversion technology, setting new benchmarks in the rapidly evolving field of generated media.

A new system called Mirage is billed as the world's first real-time video to video-to-video model. Unlike existing AI video models that produce short clips that last only a few seconds, Mirage allows for continuous conversion of live or pre-recorded video content without interruption, maintaining high quality and impressive stability.

Mirage allows users to change visual content on the fly, such as editing zoom calls while a zoom call is occurring, converting live call of duty games to a LEGO-style version, or adjusting streaming content in real time to suit the audience's age, language, and gender.

Other companies have implemented AI video tools such as Openai's SORA, Google's VEO3, and Israeli startup Lightricks' LTX, while Decart's Mirage stands out for its ability to convert videos at scale in real time. The system was developed with live broadcasting and instant creation in mind, focusing on real-time processing with minimal latency.

To achieve this, engineers designed an autoplay architecture that constructs each video frame based on previous video and user input prompts. Startups specializing in AI optimization have been able to provide high-quality visuals without compromising performance.

“The Mirage marks the dawn of a new era of video,” said Dr. Dean Reitersdorf, co-founder and CEO of Decart. “The content is no longer fixed and closed. It is alive, adapted, and created in real time in collaboration with users. Anyone can become a creator and give your imagination a visual form.

The core of Decart's breakthrough lies in its unique technology, which significantly reduces the cost of running AI models by 10 times. This innovation has already attracted major clients and has generated millions of revenue. However, even as the company secured foothold in its AI infrastructure, it continued to develop advanced models for real-time video content creation.

In late 2024, Decart released a demo application that showed the features. An app named Oasis allows users to play in a Minecraft-like environment, but it was not a real game. Instead, it was a tool powered by advanced AI models that generated Minecraft-like visuals in real time as users interact with the world. Players can move, build, climb and demolish structures. Everything is rendered instantly by the AI engine.

“Oasis was meant to be a fun little demo, I thought I might play with some,” CEO Dr. Dean Reitersdorf told Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth in a previous interview. “We were surprised at how quickly it exploded.”

Within hours, the app went viral across the platform, surpassing ChatGPT in download volume, reaching over 1 million users in just three days. Even Elon Musk has been heavily on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Wow, this is happening rapidly.”

The virus demonstration also attracted investors' attention, leading to two funding rounds totaling $53 million within two months. Sean Maguire, a partner at Sequoia Capital who has closely tracked DeCart's trajectory, said at the time:

Decart continues to refine its first commercial product, with Mirage being the result, offering a compelling solution to the real-time video-to-video challenge with just a small fraction of the operating costs of existing alternatives. The technology currently supports generation at 20 frames per live broadcast quality resolution. Future updates are expected to support the standard Full HD and 4K for most video platforms and televisions.

According to Decart, Mirage converts the very definition of a video. From static, pre-recorded formats to livelihood, flexible, interactive media. The meaning is broad. A new business model for content creators, brands and platforms. For example, broadcasters and advertisers can generate multiple versions of a single content during live transmissions. Companies can adjust content in real time to different audience segments.

In the game, developers and creators can use Mirage to dynamically add effects, create individual visual styles for each player, and provide a personalized in-game brand that enhances user experience and engagement. On social platforms, users can use Mirage to change the appearance in real time, or create clips or live streams with custom visual effects. This doesn't depend on professional editing tools.

Alongside Mirage, DeCart launched an early version of the new platform that allows users to generate and share AI-Processed videos in real time. Users can upload or record videos and enter simple prompts. The system transforms visual styles while preserving the original structure and movement.

In parallel, DeCart announced a strategic research partnership with the Israel Institute of Technology and established the AI Collaborative Research Center. The initiative is intended to enhance academic research, knowledge development and technological innovation. As part of the collaboration, DeCart is sponsoring the renamed Technion-Decart Honors Program, which was joined by CEO Dr. Dean Leitersdorf.

Decart was founded in September 2023 by Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev while serving in Israel's elite military intelligence unit 8200. The company currently employs around 50 people.
