“When people become aware of it and know what’s in it, what’s possible, what’s the limit, what’s possible, we’ll be able to make better use of it. I think,” said Professor of Computer Science and Distinguished Professor of Computer Science Sudeep Sarkar. USF Engineering.
The graduate certification program helps students seeking a competitive edge in emerging technology fields.
“It unlocks human potential,” Sarkar explained. “That’s what AI should be realistically aiming for, not the dreaded scenario of AI controlling us.”
The Artificial Intelligence Laboratory will take the lead and will offer introductory courses in deep mining, deep learning and computer vision.
The program teaches multiple ways to put AI into practice, from environmental research to cybersecurity to manufacturing to medical devices. Sarkar said he hoped to also focus on ethics and policy.
Sarkar emphasized that the certification will help strengthen the community’s competitiveness in the growing technology space by deepening their understanding of technology.
“They will understand technology better, unlock the mysteries of technology, know its limits, and use it in ways that benefit society,” Sarkar said.
The registration deadline for the fall semester is August 1st.
