“People are so focused on the end product, the robot, if you will, but I think it’s actually more of a play with data,” he said. “Especially when it comes to physical AI, it’s mostly about video.”
Why video can be physical AI’s greatest asset
Mosley said the robot is essentially a network of cameras and sensors that continuously generate unstructured video. That data is uploaded to local or cloud data centers, where AI models use it to build “world models” that help machines understand and interact with the physical world.
The more robots operate, the more videos are created and the more historical footage companies need to retain and reuse for future training.
For Seagate, this means physical AI could be a strong long-term driver of storage demand. The company sees robotics not just as a new story in computing, but as a data explosion that will require increasingly large amounts of mass storage to store years of video used to train the next generation of AI systems.
