Mississippi has its eyes on the future. And the future begins now. With a memorandum of understanding with Nvidia, signed in June, the state has partnered with global companies to focus on large-scale AI education, workforce development, research and economic initiatives. They not only create great opportunities and benefits for Magnolia residents, businesses and investors, but also position them as high-tech hubs in the south.
“This collaboration with Nvidia is monumental to Mississippi,” says Gov. Tate Reeves. “By expanding AI education, investing in workforce development and fostering innovation, we are, together with NVIDIA, creating a dynamic career in AI and a path to cybersecurity in Mississippi, jobs that are in demand for the future.

Mississippi, including Utah, California and Oregon, which have similar agreements with NVIDIA, is intended to incorporate AI, machine learning and data science programs into community colleges, universities and vocational schools, and train 10,000 residents for future careers in areas such as cybersecurity. Educators will be certified through Nvidia's Deep Learning Institute. “By expanding AI education and promoting collaboration between research institutes, industry leaders and workforce initiatives, we are promoting and creating an ecosystem that will expand the Mississippi's capabilities of AI and cybersecurity.”
The nation is also actively responding to the rapid advances in AI by establishing the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (Main), the country's first AI system that forms an approach to artificial intelligence and workforce development. Now, thanks to the launch of the Mississippi AI Talent Accelerator Program (MAI-TAP) and the $9.1 million grant to higher education institutions, the state is expanding its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), another step towards attracting next-generation employers to Mississippi. The $10 billion AWS data center investment created 1,000 jobs on an average salary of $66,000. Another company that has been attracting attention since then is Avaio Digital, which has found a $6 billion data center complex in Brandon just east of Jackson.
Gov. Reeves said: “The AWS project had an incredible ripple effect. It's still under construction, but thousands have already worked as AWS chooses to be located in Mississippi. The project deployed Mississippi as a hub for cloud computing and machine learning.

The state's commitment to providing customized workforce training solutions for traditional and promising industries continues to benefit employers. For example, after accelerating the MS guidelines, Meridian Community College provides employer training to more than 400 businesses and 14,000 individuals in 2024-25, offering it to companies such as Lockheed Martin, Van Seiberden, Fairbanks Scale and Anderson's Community Health System. To cite another example, the Engineering and Technology Department of East Mississippi Community College has developed non-credit stackable credentials tailored to the needs of their employers.
The focus is on AI and tech-driven economic initiatives, combining with Mississippi's increasingly favorable business environment. The state has eliminated individual income taxes and ranked second in 2024 in actual GDP growth. Among the many major companies that already call Magnolia State home are Nissan, Toyota, Continental Tires, Amazon, AWS, Ingalls Shipbuilding, Wayne Sanderson Farm, Viking and Northrop Grumman.
More importantly, all these efforts are coming together to show the path to a dynamic future. Bill Coke, executive director of the Mississippi Development Bureau, has positioned Mississippi as a hub for AI and machine learning, and other similar companies are showing up to learn more about the “Mississippi momentum” and what we can offer. “The arrival of AWS also validates the fact that investment in infrastructure, workforce development and pro-business policies is paying off. AWS asserts that we are not just in the game, we are winning it. Tangible always validates the work we do every day.”
