Kong announces launch of new premium technology partner program to strengthen developer ecosystem

Ascent helps companies reduce traditional API management migration timelines by at least 50%

Kong Inc., a leading developer of API and AI connectivity technologies, announced Kong Ascent, a new AI-assisted migration service designed to help enterprises make their APIs AI-enabled. By automating and accelerating migrations from traditional API management platforms to Kong Konnect, a unified API and AI platform, Ascent enables enterprises to reduce typical migration timelines by more than 50%.

AI agents are rapidly emerging as a new class of API consumers, alongside applications and human developers. To adapt, organizations need an API platform that can transform traditional APIs into interfaces that agents can use. This change requires an infrastructure that can secure agent access, provide deep visibility into agent activity, and tightly control the cost of agent workflows.

Traditional API management platforms are primarily designed for integration between human developers and applications, so they typically lack native support for features such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI-specific governance, agent observability, semantic control, and AI traffic management. As a result, many companies are facing a growing gap between their AI ambitions and the ability of their infrastructure to run their APIs.

While the need to modernize is clear, the perceived risks of migration have historically been a hurdle. Multi-year timelines, large consulting fees, and the risk of unpredictable cutovers mean that staying with your old infrastructure is less painful than trying to get rid of it.

Kong Ascent solves this dilemma. By bringing AI automation to the migration lifecycle, backed by human support from Kong Professional Services, Ascent accelerates your migration to Kong Konnect. This allows organizations to seamlessly migrate from legacy systems to a unified platform built for API, AI, events, and agent connectivity, effectively bridging the gap between AI strategy and infrastructure reality.

“All enterprise software vendors are competing to make their platforms accessible to AI agents,” said Reza Shafii, senior vice president of products at Kong. “The challenge for most organizations is that the APIs that power their business are not designed to be discovered, managed, protected, and used by agents. Kong provides customers with the platform they need to make their APIs agent-enabled, and Ascent dramatically accelerates that journey.”

Kong Konnect allows organizations to expose APIs to AI agents, manage and secure agent access through AI gateways, monitor and control AI traffic, expose APIs and AI services through developer and agent catalogs, and apply consistent governance across traditional API and AI workloads. Together, these capabilities enable enterprises to deploy agent AI while maintaining the security, visibility, and operational control they need at scale.

Kong Ascent is currently available through Kong Professional Services for migration from MuleSoft® environments with additional platforms. The move to Kong Konnect, a unified API and AI platform, enables customers to manage their APIs, events, and agents in one place, positioning them well as they enter the age of agent AI.
