SEOUL, September 8 (Yonghap) – President Lee Jae Myung said Monday that he will develop the artificial intelligence (AI) industry into a next generation factor in growth through investment.
Lee has announced its goal of launching the National AI Strategy Committee to make Korea one of the top three AI powerhouses in the world.
Lee said South Korea “will decide whether we are currently at a historic turning point to determine whether we are in the dangers that are left behind, or whether we will become pioneers who enjoy endless opportunities.”
“The vision to become one of the top three AI powers in the world is the core survival strategy that determines the future of our nation,” Lee said.
He warned that lagging means deepening technical dependence, industry decline and inequality, and urged bold action to advance AI transformation.

At the first meeting of the Presidential Committee, Lee outlined four strategies to develop the AI industry.
“We must deliver comprehensive, human-centric AI that everyone can easily access and use,” he said, pledging strategic government investments to support the private sector and strengthen its global competitiveness.
He emphasized the need to overhaul systems in management, healthcare and education to make society “AI-friendly” and proposed “negative regulations,” a framework in which all activities are permitted unless expressly prohibited by law.
Lee also emphasized the importance of fostering AI-related industries, building infrastructure and developing talent in ways that ensure balanced growth in the region.
