Boston Consulting Group (BCG) announced that it plans to spend $500 million by 2030 on AI-driven interventions to support social impact initiatives in areas such as education, workforce development, healthcare, and poverty reduction.
“AI has tremendous potential to help address some of the world’s most pressing societal challenges,” BCG noted. “However, the organizations best placed to act on that potential are often still severely under-resourced.”
“Unlock and Scale”
Through its investments, BCG will help nonprofits, philanthropies, and other social impact organizations “unlock and scale” development gains, it added. This announcement builds on the approximately $1.5 billion BCG has invested in social impact projects since the early 2010s.
“AI is defining the strategic priorities of our time,” said Christoph Schweitzer, CEO of BCG. “As we help businesses and industries around the world apply AI to transform, we are also deeply committed to ensuring the social sector reaps the same benefits. AI can and should play a critical role in addressing society’s toughest problems.”
Jim Larson, BCG’s global social impact leader, echoed his words, saying this work builds on the company’s long-standing work with social impact organizations over the past 30 years.
“That heritage and our deep experience helping leading companies transform with AI at scale puts us in a unique position at this time. Now we are called upon to bring together our expertise, the power of AI, and the influence of our partner organizations to contribute to lasting change.”
Partnership with Anthropic
As a first step, BCG is partnering with Anthropic’s Beneficial Deployments team, through which we aim to support up to 20 social impact organizations in 2026.
Elizabeth Kelly, Head of Informative Deployment at Anthropic, which is based on the Claude LLM platform, added, “Organizations tackling the world’s toughest problems need access to powerful AI and a team that can help them make it work in practice.” read more here.
