A new program from the Swampscott Recreation Department will teach residents the basics of artificial intelligence (AI) systems with hands-on lessons.
This workshop is for adults and will be held on Tuesday, May 12th at Clark Elementary School. Overture AI approached the recreation department with the idea of hosting a class, and Overture CEO Aspen Buckingham agreed to help lead the program. All necessary equipment and materials will be provided by Overture.
Recreation Program Coordinator Christina O’Connor said the class will be highly interactive and teach registrants about safety precautions when using AI.
“AI is definitely a hot topic right now,” O’Connor says. “This is a great opportunity to introduce this class to a lot of people. The safety aspect of the class impressed us.”
The addition of workshops aligns with the Recreation Department’s goal of offering something for everyone of all ages in its programming catalog.
“Overture is about figuring out where to start,” O’Connor said. “It will be a practical introduction.”
A less hands-on introduction to AI for youth may also be planned for the recreation sector.
“In this interactive session, we start with your real-life challenges, such as work, personal tasks, or things that take up too much time, and Aspen shows you how AI can help you personally,” says the Recreation Department listing for adult classes. “The goal is to retire with at least one practical way to use AI to save an hour or more each week based on your needs.”
