METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection introduces the X56 DXD+ dual-energy photon counting X-ray system with AI capabilities. The system is designed for packaging applications and is intended to enable manufacturers to inspect products with enhanced contamination detection capabilities.

This solution is suitable for applications where low-density contaminants such as rubber and plastics need to be reliably detected. The company says it offers the safety of “premium” products in the form of pet food, potato chips, potatoes and more.

METTLER TOLEDO’s X6 series features a wide range of X-ray inspection solutions to fit a variety of product sizes, including individual packs, large cases, and multipacks. Apparently, the X56 DXD+ has a system width of 500mm and features advanced dual-energy photon counting capabilities for single-lane medium to large-sized products or small packages running across multiple lanes.

The system’s AI integration aims to improve the quality and reliability of quality inspection tasks while reducing unnecessary product rejection, and is also available on other X-ray systems in the product range.

METTLER TOLEDO features X56 DXD+ detector technology and Advanced Materials Discrimination Pro (AMD Pro) software, which makes the X56 DXD+ It says the system offers “outstanding performance” in challenging and complex applications, particularly detecting low-density contaminants in packaging products with large variations in thickness, density, or overlapping textures, such as multipacks, potato chip bags, and bulky cartons. Additionally, it can support effective quality control even for products with a lot of noise or high contrast, which conventional systems could not handle.

The company adds that the system features an intuitive interface, tool-free belt removal for quick cleaning, a robust hygienic design suitable for high-speed, high-volume environments, and a throughput rate of up to 500 products per minute. The X56 DXD+ also includes product quality tools such as integrity checking, clip detection, and pinch-in-seal inspection.

The system accommodates a variety of conveyor heights and rejection options and is available in single-lane or multi-lane configurations. According to METTLER TOLEDO, its software provides complete traceability through a database of recorded images that can be accessed on-screen or integrated with METTLER TOLEDO ProdX data management software for centralized monitoring and compliance. ProdX is designed to automate the monitoring, reporting, and reconciliation of all inspection activities in real-time, providing evidence of due diligence to facilitate regulatory compliance and protect your brand reputation.
