Google Vids adds Gemini Omni for AI video generation, editing, and personal avatars

AI Video & Visuals

Google announced new AI-powered features for Google Vids, introducing Gemini Omni for video generation and conversation editing, along with a personal avatar that can use the user’s appearance and voice to deliver scripted messages.

The company says millions of videos have been created using Google Vids over the past year. Following Veo 3.1, which was made available to users earlier this year, our latest additions expand our AI video creation capabilities.

Gemini Omni enables AI video generation from text and images

Gemini Omni allows users to generate video clips by describing what they want through natural language prompts. Users can also provide reference images, such as photos or rough sketches, to give the AI additional visual context.

The model combines the provided text instructions and image references to generate a video clip based on the requested scene and visual orientation.

Beyond the initial generation, users can improve their videos through conversational editing. Instead of recreating the entire clip when changes are needed, users can write individual changes and continue adjusting existing videos step by step.

Gemini Omni can be used for tasks such as replacing video backgrounds, improving lighting, adding visual effects, adjusting AI-generated clips, and editing footage recorded using your smartphone.

Google Vids adds personal avatars

Google Vids also introduces personal avatars, allowing users to create digital versions of themselves for video presentations and messages without having to manually record each video.

To create a personal avatar, users must provide a selfie and a short audio recording. Once you’ve set up your avatar, you can enter scripts that allow your avatar to use its look and voice to deliver messages.

Personal avatars are linked to your Google Account and can only represent the account owner’s likeness. This feature is limited to eligible users who are 18 years of age or older in supported regions.

AI-generated videos include SynthID

Google said video clips generated using its AI capabilities include an invisible SynthID watermark. This provides a way to identify and verify content generated using Google’s AI tools.

availability

Gemini Omni and personal avatars are available in Google Vids for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers and eligible Google Workspace business customers. Personal avatars are currently limited to supported regions and audiences.
