Washington (TNND) – YouTube is taking steps to protect children and teenagers from viewing inappropriate videos and other harmful content.
Social media platforms are testing AI-driven age estimation tools to detect users under the age of 18. If you flag them as a minor, users will face stricter safety controls and limited content access.
Leeza Garber, a cybersecurity expert and privacy lawyer, said YouTube is testing algorithms for those under 18 years of age.
They monitor the user's habits, habit viewing, what to click, videos, history, and age of their YouTube accounts, and determine whether it should actually be a professional version of YouTube aimed at children and teens. And Gerber said in a one-on-one interview with Angela Brown at the National News Desk on Thursday.
Gerber said that if an adult is labeled as having an account that looks like a child's account, they must go through the process to prove they are over 18 years old.
All social media platforms and content providers, including YouTube, are facing backlash to host violent or pornographic content or inappropriate or incorrect,” she said. Parents should monitor all habits when viewing content, but what they access, hopefully this will provide an additional layer of protection. ”
Still, she described it as a double edge sword. This is because user privacy concerns remain ongoing.
