SHANGHAI, July 18 (Xinhua) – Global artificial intelligence (AI) development is showing new trends in terms of infrastructure, large-scale model industrialization and global governance, said a report presented at the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance held in Shanghai on Friday.
According to the 2026 Global AI Innovation Index report compiled by the China Institute of Science and Technology Information and Peking University, the world’s AI infrastructure continues to expand, and energy supply has emerged as a new variable for future development.
As the focus of industrializing large-scale AI models shifts from general-purpose to vertical applications, from training to inference, and from single-point technology deployment to transforming entire business processes, companies are opting for significant asset investments.
The report also pointed out that there is an urgent need for global AI governance, and China is promoting global AI governance and multidimensional comprehensive cooperation.
The 2026 Global AI Innovation Index report conducts a quantitative assessment of AI innovation and development in 46 countries around the world, reflecting the overall status and evolving trends of AI development around the world. ■
