Although adoption of Gen AI in India is almost universal, training is not just unlikely to bridge the skills gap, AWS research says

98% of Indian organizations use generative AI tools, and most develop GEN AI training plans, but a study commissioned by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in collaboration with Access Partnership shows that employees' understanding of skills needs is limited.

A survey of 415 senior IT decision makers in India pointed out that 83% of Indian organisations have appointed dedicated AI executives, usually head of AI (CAIO) to focus on recruitment and implementation. Another 15% plan to do so by 2026, according to the survey.

However, the IT decision makers surveyed cited challenges such as limited understanding of employee GEN AI skills needs, uncertainty regarding effective implementation, and budget constraints.

“Given these limitations, training alone is rarely enough to bridge the skill gap,” AWS said at a press conference.

Still, research shows that generative AI talent is expected to be in widespread demand in almost every organization in India.

AWS shared that it launched a generative AI innovation centre through a $100 million investment to allow organizations to access AWS expertise and expertise through free workshops and training.

AWS previously said it had planned to invest $12.7 billion in India's cloud infrastructure by 2030. Between 2016 and 2022, AWS invested $3.7 billion in India.
