YouTube connects VEO 3 AI videos directly to shorts

AI Video & Visuals

Announcing on stage at Cannes Lions, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has confirmed that Google's latest and most advanced AI video generation model, Veo 3, will soon be integrated directly into YouTube shorts.

For creators, this means high-quality AI videos with better visuals, sound and editing capabilities right inside the app.

This is not YouTube's first foray into AI-supported creativity. Previous VEO 2 models already run the Dream Screen, the background generator for shorts. But VEO 3 makes things a notch. Higher fidelity, more film shots, smoother motion, audio.

This isn't just a cool new tool, it's a strategic bet on AI native creativity.

Shorts already average 200 billion views per day. And Google is clearly betting in the content creation process that it will increase its number by directly giving creators powerful generation tools.

It remains to be seen whether VEO 3 access inside the shorts is free or if you'll be bound by Google's paid AI Pro/Ultra plan. But the trajectory is clear. Creation is becoming faster and more driven, and YouTube doesn't want to be left behind.

Let's be real: Tiktok has given us a trend, IG reels have given us a reach, while YouTube quietly positions itself as a home of Ai-Enhanced video storytelling. With VEO 3, shorts can evolve from quick clips to mini movies. Imagine a creator scripting a sequence of films with a few words and atmosphere. Imagine trends built into AI scenes instead of actual footage. Imagine a viral that doesn't require a ring light.
