Newswise — Yale School of Medicine, a world leader in AI in medicine, will host the 2026 Yale Medical AI Symposium on March 26.
“We are proud to host this AI in Medicine symposium at this pivotal time as the field moves from promise to practice,” said Nancy J. Brown, MD, PhD, Gene W. Wallace Dean of the Yale School of Medicine. “As thought leaders in artificial intelligence and medicine, our faculty sees the extraordinary potential that ethically designed and implemented AI models can transform the lives of patients at home and abroad.” According to her, academic medicine plays a critical role in guiding the advancement of AI and laying the foundation for innovation in rigorous science, clinical insight, and equitable use in patient care settings.
“We want to share the exciting research happening here at Yale and at other institutions,” said Lucila Ono-Machado, MD, Waldemar von Zettwitz Professor of Medicine, Biomedical Informatics, and Data Science, associate dean of Biomedical Informatics, and chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science. “We plan to discuss best practices on important issues such as the development, evaluation, and deployment of AI in translational research (i.e., research that is close to application in medical practice) and begin collaborations that can advance the research we are all working on.”
This symposium is designed to connect research groups on Yale’s campus with research groups at other institutions. “We will have speakers on AI in clinical settings, including how to apply AI to specific disease areas,” said Hua Shu, Ph.D., Robert T. McCluskey Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science at Yale School of Medicine and co-creator of the symposium. Xu said both ethics and privacy issues will be discussed.
According to Xu, institutions have begun to develop appropriate policies and governance structures for the development and implementation of medical AI applications. “But it makes much more sense for us to come together, share our experiences, and think about these challenges collectively, rather than each health care organization individually developing its own governance framework,” he says.
YSM invites the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Hub to participate and submit poster presentations highlighting ongoing or completed research at the intersection of AI, informatics, and clinical and translational science. Media members are also invited.
The event will be hosted by the Yale Clinical Research Center and the Yale Biomedical Informatics and Computing Core from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a reception. It will be held at 101 College Street in New Haven, CT. Remote options are also available. Click here to register.
Yale University, at the forefront of AI integration, will host its second campus-wide interdisciplinary AI symposium, “From Innovation to Impact: AI at Yale,” next month at Klein Tower on April 28, 2026.
