Search AI takeover continues, and YouTube is testing a near-full-screen AI overview page for video search results.
In the latest tests, YouTube shows “AI-powered search results Carousel” in video search results. This incorporates information and video, effectively covering the entire page, and displaying actual video search results from the mobile app's view.
YouTube explains:
We introduce the new AI-powered Carousel search results to suggest videos and topic explanations by YouTube creators. Imagine searching for “the best beaches in Hawaii.” You can see an AI-generated carousel highlighting clips from videos introducing the best snorkel spots and volcanic beaches.
This new format has been tested for the time being only with premium YouTube subscribers in the US, and is only available for searches that include “shop, travel, or do at a specific location.” This test is completely opted in via the Youtube.com/new page and these are only visible in Android and iOS apps.
Another AI-powered change that appears on YouTube is an extension to the conversational AI tools that appear under the video. YouTube says the feature will be coming out “in the coming days” for non-premium US YouTube users.
