On Wednesday, Google introduced a new video remix feature to Google Photos. Now you can instantly transform, relight, and style your video clips into shareable artwork using AI templates. Video Remix uses Google’s Gemini Omni AI model to filter photos, change lighting, and add different backgrounds to existing videos. The company said it’s a way to “create stylized and imaginative memories from a library of easy-to-use templates.”
Gemini Omni, announced at Google’s developer conference in May, lets you create graphics and videos from prompts. There are already several competing generative AI tools at our disposal, but this one could help us do some creative things with the thousands of photos we have stored.

Rather than generating something from scratch, you can isolate your subject and replace a boring background, apply cinematic lighting to fix bad exposure, or turn your personal clips into 3D animations, watercolors, or graphite-style sketches. It’s specifically designed to be accessible to casual users who can take advantage of the “one-tap” AI template library to automatically handle tedious tasks.
Google seems to be positioning Video Remix as a premium AI feature, and these advanced AI video editing cloud processes are gated behind usage restrictions. Initially, this feature will only be available to adults 18 and older with one of the AI plans (Google AI Plus, Pro, Ultra) in select countries, including the US, India, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea.
