Which Ohio University has added a new applied AI/Information Systems business degree?

AKON, Ohio – This week, the University of AKON announced it has launched a new Bachelor of Business Administration in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems.

According to a university news release, the launch of new degree programs is due to an increased demand for graduates who can connect new technology with business and business.

Globally, the artificial intelligence market is estimated to be $279.22 billion in 2024, and is projected to reach $349.726 billion in 2033, according to a report by Grand View Research.

The continuous research and innovation of technology leaders is driving the adoption of advanced technologies in industries such as automotive, healthcare, retail, finance and manufacturing.

The university's new degree program, according to the release, is intended to help students balance data, technology and strategy. It also aims to equip graduates with a technical understanding of AI and methods to take responsibility and effectively use it.

“AI is fundamentally transforming the way businesses run and compete,” Business Associate Dean Debmalya Mukherjee said in the release. “Equipping students directly with APRIDED AI skills is consistent with the experience of the University of Akron Business Motto University.

The new program goes beyond coding and software development by focusing on connecting business applications with applied technology training. According to the release, program highlights include machine learning, deep learning, data provisioning and AI-driven decision-making. The programme course includes:

  • Introducing applied AI and information systems
  • Data provided for applied artificial intelligence
  • Artificial Intelligence for Business
  • Deep learning for business

“This is about preparing students for the future of their work,” said Professor and Chair of Erin Macarius, the Ministry of Management, in the release. “Companies need graduates who understand the capabilities of AI, communicate their value to decision makers, and implement solutions responsibly. Students leave the skills to bridge the gap between business and technology.”

The program combines classroom knowledge with professional practice, combining hands-on learning, internships, industry partnerships and real-world projects. According to the release, program graduates are preparing for careers in roles focused on business intelligence, information technology and systems management, entrepreneurship and AI.
