- Celebrities like RFK Jr. and Alex Jones tweeted AI-generated Thanksgiving photos.
- This trend follows the launch of Google Gemini’s Nano Banana Pro a week ago.
- Nano Banana Pro could make the same jokey photo indistinguishable from AI by next year.
AI won’t just come up with mashed potato recipes this Thanksgiving. Digitally altered family portraits are also on the menu, with some starting to look more realistic.
RFK Jr. parodied the famous photo of him dining at McDonald’s with President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Elon Musk and others, swapping out his Happy Meal for Brussels sprouts and cranberries. Alex Jones appeared to be cooking a turkey with Sidney Sweeney. Crypto influencer Tiffany Fung created her sculpture next to Jackie Chan with the help of AI.
One of the more realistic renderings comes from Daniel Newman, CEO of technology research group Futurum. Neumann shared multiple photos of himself appearing to be dining with tech leaders including Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Satya Nadella, Tim Cook, and Jensen Huang (who appeared twice).
“Seriously… there is too much AI,” Newman wrote.
New AI model announced just days before Thanksgiving
While major AI generators used the holiday to show off new updates — OpenAI’s Sora shared a video of an animated turkey and Topaz Labs restored footage of a 1940s Macy’s Day Parade — one AI model stole the show this week.
A week before Thanksgiving, Google Gemini announced Nano Banana Pro, an updated version of its AI image generator. Users noted the new model’s surrealism when compared to similar images created with previous versions of Nano Banana.
Already, Nano Banana Pro has surprised online users by producing photos of tech CEOs partying together (busy week for AI CEOs!)
So if you’re sitting down with your relatives this Thanksgiving, it might be the perfect time to share some tips for spotting AI while it’s still relevant.
