Videos generated by AI are misused as visuals promoted by PM Modi and Shah Rukh Khan

AI Video & Visuals

Videos that appear like news clips are widely shared on social media. In the video, Bollywood actor Shah Luk Khan (SRK) talks about a passive income platform developed by Mukesh Ambani, who is said to be withheld from the public by the Indian government. Later in the video, news anchor Anjana Om Kasyap said that after SRK issued this statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to it, revealing that the platform/project is a crypto-based investment app/scheme. You can see Prime Minister Modi talking about the scheme and asking people to register on the website. A link to a site named “inoviuew.com” is available in the post. This claim is fact-checked through this article.

The archive version of the post can be found here.

Claim: News clips about Bollywood actor Shah Luke Khan and PM Modi promote the AI-driven, crypto-based investment scheme/app launched by Mukesh Ambani.

fact: This is a deep-fark video generated by AI. There is no reliable evidence to prove that SRK and PM Modi have promoted this investment scheme/app. Therefore, the claim made in the post is error.

To confirm the truthfulness of the virus claims, we performed keyword search online and found no news reports that Prime Minister Shah Rukh Khan or Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted such investment schemes or apps. No official statements were found from mentions from governments that launched the AI-powered Crypto initiative

The entire viral video saw news anchor voices and accents Anjana Om Kashyap, PM Modi and actor Shah Rukh Khan, which were unusual and off compared to the original voice. Their mouths also felt unrealistic. This led me to suspect that virus videos were created using artificial intelligence.

To confirm this, I ran the video using multiple AI detection tools such as Hive, Cantilux, and Hiya. Hive has evaluated multiple segments of the video, but over 99% can be generated by AI (here, here, here). Another AI detection tool, named Cantilux, concluded that AI is the media that was generated (here, here, here).

The HIYA AI audio detector, which detects AI-generated audio, flagged several segments as being AI-generated.

Additionally, we found that the links that the viral post directs users to be websites with questionable names. inoview.com. Fraud Detector, a site that detects suspicious websites, gave the site a rating of 1.9 out of 100. This site mimics the appearance of Invest in Indialegitimate governmental bodies under the sector for promoting industry and internal trade (DPIIT). However, this site is fake and falsely claims to represent an official government investment initiative.

Additionally, individual reverse image searches on the Internet found the original source of the clip featuring SRK and PM Modi. Shah Rukh Khan Clip was sourced from an interview uploaded by the Locarno Film Festival YouTube channel in October 2024. However, no mention of crypto investment projects was made in the original interview.
