In a recent interview, Dave Chappelle makes some bold observations about AI and the future it could redefine in the coming years.
Speaking on a PBS News podcast, Chappelle reflected on how AI has the potential to reshape the future and questioned what skills will be important for the next generation as automation increases.
The American actor questions the importance of thinking and cognitive skills in today’s technology-driven world, saying that thanks to artificial intelligence, no one has to think anymore.
“I was talking to a friend and we laughed about how no one knows what to teach kids today. What skill sets will be important in 10 or 20 years as the world becomes more automated?”
“We decided that your character is your destiny. If you are a good person, you can ask that of anyone and hope for the best.”
“I don’t know if anyone needs to think anymore. It’s AI, it’s quantum computing, and thinking seems to be for poor people,” he quipped.
Chappelle’s comments reflect the impending impact of AI on human cognitive abilities. However, these comments sparked debate on the internet, with some users supporting this view and others opposing it.
One user wrote, “This is true to some extent, but AI only purposefully sabotages AI in the education sector. Just like with typing, forcing people to learn handwriting, or forcing people to learn formulas and motion with calculators.”
Another person commented, “Yeah, Dave. Whatever you say is fine. You’re a celebrity and a source of truth. We’re just poor people.”
“I disagree. Thinking is for the rich. They train the poor not to think, so the masses are easier to control and the rich can do anything without fear of rebellion,” a third person commented.
“Wouldn’t you be mad if an AI thought for you? AI can’t understand emotions, relationships, or critical thinking,” wrote a fourth.
