Several other videos portrayed monkeys generated by AI committing crimes, labeling them as “regular suspects.” For example, the video, which has 5.3 million views, depicts a police car chasing after a car chased by a police cruiser crashes into a pole, causing a monkey to escape from the driver's seat. It says, “AI goes out of your hand.”
Another video depicts a white man with a million viewers saying, “Yeah, that's a normal suspect again,” followed by shots of a chimpanzee wearing gold chains running out of the car while police sirens cry out in the background.
Not every video we found depicting black people to rely on animal images to promote a hateful agenda. Media Matters, for example, found a video of a black man wearing a balaclava carrying a television from a loot with a window.
These AI-generated videos are also rooted in other racist stereotypes, such as “Fatherless,” a false story about black fathers lacking in their child's lives.
373,900 viewers depict a video of a crying white woman crying and saying, “Tekobius, I have something to tell you. I'm pregnant.” A monkey wearing a hat can be seen running away to the car in the rear. The text reads, “What is Ai Tryna saying?”
In another video, with 351,000 views, a black woman complains to the barista that she doesn't have enough milk for her coffee. The white barista said, “Maybe your baby's dad has come back with milk even though he's already been around for years. You can get watermelon and fried chicken instead.”
Consumption of fried chicken and watermelon – a long-standing anti-black racist stereotype – was a recurring theme in this content.
147,600 viewers said black men “I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I need watermelons, watermelons.
Another video features a monkey named “Recalius,” wearing a gold chain and holding a bucket of fried chicken, with 350,900 views.
These videos also featured repeated themes of police violence against black people.
One particularly viral video – 14.2 million viewers – depicts two white police officers eating a donut. One of them says, “Look! Something black!” He then fires his gun multiple times.
In another video, with 2.1 million views, a white police officer has a fishing rod with a fishing rod as bait. “My numbers are low this week. Men have to do things that men don't do,” he says.
Another video of 383,300 viewers shows white police officers outside of KFC saying “these motherfuckers are camping.” (Spawn camp is a game term that refers to waiting near a specific spawning location to kill a player right after spawning.) When a black man comes out of the KFC, a white police officer says “bingo” and points his gun at him.
Most of the AI video media identified the black issues that were targeted, but other racial and ethnic groups were similarly targeted.
One video of over 206,900 viewers reads “The average Panda Express is similar,” with images of cats and dogs appearing on screen as Asians tell customers “Try the orange bark and mews and try Moo Niu today.”
Several videos depicting South Asians as dirty.
One video shows a South Asian man being chased by a shower head after 1.2 million views and says, “No!”
In another video, a South Asian man uses his feet to prepare food and serves a bowl of mud along with the rat.
Another video depicts a crowd of orthodox Jewish men tumble down a hill chasing gold.
