Jakarta (Antarra) – Communications and Digital Affairs Ministry views Udayana University's AI Center initiative as a strategic measure that pioneered the use of AI in cultural issues and tourism.

“The government needs to work extensively with many educational institutions to prepare this country to face AI. It requires cooperation with many people, especially from a digital literacy perspective.”

Indonesia, which consists of 280 million people, needs digital literacy to ensure that AI is properly utilized, she noted. The Minister said that Udayana University's measures to develop AI for cultural and tourism goals are correct.

She said what campuses can do in addition to increasing digital literacy is leveraging local possibilities when it comes to using AI. In Bali, the availability of this region lies in tourism and culture, so use covers two aspects.

But she said there must be a number of things to address, such as connectivity and regulations. Therefore, she pushed for the government and the private sector to pursue joint efforts to ensure vast connectivity and networks across the country.

The minister confirmed that the use of AI will benefit people in a safe way as the government prepares regulations. She explained that planned regulations could take the form of government or presidential regulations.

“Firstly it relates to government regulations on AI roadmap, and AI in particular in terms of ethics and safety,” she added.

In the same statement, I Ketut Sudarsana, president of Udayana University, said the institution is ready to support the development of AI based on local wisdom.

“We focus on cultural issues and tourism. (We too) may expand to aspects related to food resilience, industry and the development of a sustainable environment,” he explained.
