The new council of AI companies comes one month after the Department of Defense has signed contracts with several AI companies to develop tools for defense.

As AI became a central part of its defense, humanity set up a national security and public sector advisory committee to deepen its relationship with Washington and the Allied government.
The San Francisco-based startup announced a new panel on Wednesday.
The launch of the council highlights efforts to ensure AI companies shape policies and that their technology supports democratic interests amid global competition.
Anthropic's new efforts came when rivals such as Openai and Google Deepmind were increasing their involvement with governments and regulators on AI safety, but neither of them announced a dedicated National Security Advisory Committee.
The Council of Humanity brings together former senators and senior officials from the US Department of Defense, Intelligence Reporting Agency, and the Energy and Justice Department.
This advises humanity on integrating AI into sensitive government operations and forms standards of security, ethics and compliance.
Those members include former senator and member of the Intelligence Email Committee, former CIA deputy director David S. Cohen, and Richard Fontaine, who heads the new American security center.
Other appointees played top legal and nuclear security roles across Republican and Democratic administrations.
Humanity said the group will advise on high impact applications in cybersecurity, intelligence analysis and scientific research, and help set industry standards for responsible AI use.
The company plans to expand its council as partnerships with public sector institutions grow.
Last month, the Pentagon established a $200 million program to develop AI tools for defense, highlighting the push for a sector that balances innovation and security risks. The initiative reflects the growing global competition for AI capabilities, with Washington trying to maintain its advantage over rivals such as China and Russia.
This effort includes the human race, Openai, the alphabet – the parent company of Google, Xai – the AI company defended by Elon Musk.
