
Actor Ranveer Singh has filed an FIR against a social media handle that was promoting an AI-generated deepfake video allegedly sharing his political views. The actor's official spokesperson confirmed that he has filed a complaint with the police and an FIR has been lodged for further investigation by the Cyber Crime Branch.
“Yes, we have filed a police complaint and an FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Ranveer Singh,” the spokesperson said.
The video comes from the actor's recent visit to Varanasi where he headlined a show organized by designer Manish Malhotra. During his visit to the city, the actor praised the changes brought about by the overhaul of public infrastructure, while also sharing his “sacred” experience of the city. The video is not tampered with, but the audio here is his Ranveer's voice clone using his AI.
After the video started being shared on social media, Ranveer posted on his Instagram story:deepfake se bacho doston (Watch out for deepfakes, everyone.)
