Sean Goater says his AI-generated ads on social media are a scam
Bermuda soccer legend Shaun Goater has admitted that a video of himself advertising an investment plan posted on social media is a scam.
The former Manchester City and Bermuda star striker appears in an AI-generated advertisement highlighted in a Bermuda Broadcasting Company news article, encouraging fellow Bermudians and residents to invest $250 in an investment scheme that promises a large and quick return on funds expiring this week.
The video shows Mr Goater announcing a new economic initiative that has the potential to change the lives of thousands of Bermudians.
The group claims thousands of Bermudians are already earning up to $5,000 a day in extra income, and Mr Goater is offering to pay the difference to those earning less than $100,000 in the first month.
The 56-year-old warned the public to distance themselves from false advertising, ignore it and delete it.
“Recently, I have become aware of scams being used to trick Bermudians into investing by using AI to show me speaking and then using AI again to make it look like it’s me,” Mr Goater said. royal gazette.
“This is not me. This is a scam. I advise all Bermudians to ignore it, recognize it as a scam and remove it.”
Goater, who scored 84 goals in 184 appearances for Manchester City during his glittering career, said he was not completely surprised by the video.
“I can say yes and no in terms of being surprised, because I’ve seen someone use AI to copy famous people’s songs in the past,” he said.
“So, no, in that I was surprised that they would take advantage of me, but now that I have seen again what kind of place Bermuda is in terms of wealth and prices, I understand why someone would want to do that.
“What’s interesting is that neither I nor my family were able to open it, so there were individuals and individuals blocking it somehow so that we couldn’t open it. But it just so happens that people who know me know, ‘This is not what Sean is talking about,’ so that’s where it came out.”
“So I’m not really surprised to see other celebrities. I was surprised to think they would take advantage of someone like me. But scammers are scammers, so they’ll take advantage of whatever they can.”
