Former US President Barack Obama said many Americans found it “deeply concerning” that Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video depicting him and his wife Michelle as monkeys.

Obama made the revelation during his first reaction to the incident on a podcast hosted by Brian Tyler Cohen.

The Trump Truth In a video posted on social, Mrs. Obama is seen having her head pressed against the body of a black monkey, and her husband is shown having his head pressed against the body of a brown monkey.

Obama said the video was an attention-seeking distraction for Trump, noting that the majority of Americans still believe in decency and civility.

“It’s true that it attracts attention. It’s true that it’s a distraction. But as I travel around the country, as you travel around the country, you’re going to meet people,” the former American leader said.

“They still believe in courtesy, courtesy and kindness. And there’s this kind of clown show on social media and on TV.”

Obama further commented that the sense of shame has been lost under the Trump administration, noting that Trump used to promote the civility that comes with the Oval Office.

“And the truth is, there doesn’t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like they had to have some kind of decorum. And there’s also a sense of decorum and respect for the office, right? So that’s been lost.”

“It’s important to recognize that the majority of Americans find this behavior deeply problematic,” the politician added.
