YouTuber PewDiePie has officially launched Odysseus, a free, self-hosted AI workspace designed to provide users with an alternative to mainstream AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude.

The launch was announced in a video titled “MY TRILLION DOLLAR PROJECT IS FINALLY HERE!” It was published yesterday (May 31st) on PewDiePie’s YouTube channel.

Over the past year, PewDiePie has chronicled its AI development efforts, building a custom system that can run open source language models on its own hardware.

His goal was to create a platform that offered the convenience of popular AI services without relying on cloud infrastructure or requiring users to hand over their data to big tech companies.

According to the official description, “Odysseus is a self-hosted interface for interacting with language models, including chat, autonomous agents, tools, model contributions, email, and surveys. Local first, privacy first, no telemetry. Just you and your models.”

The platform is designed as an all-in-one AI workspace, allowing users to connect to local models or external APIs, run autonomous AI agents, perform research tasks, compare output from multiple models side-by-side, and manage documents within a single interface.

In the announcement video, PewDiePie demonstrated some of the platform’s features, showing how it can perform research tasks, manage conversations, and act as a private AI assistant without relying entirely on third-party services.

Odysseus’ main focus is privacy. The local-first platform allows users to store conversations, files, and personal data on their own hardware rather than sending it to external servers.

This project is also open source and free to use.

On the Odysseus website, PewDiePie explains that the platform has “no sales team, no demo requests, and no Trojans” and encourages users to download, modify, and host it themselves.

At launch, PewDiePie summarized the project’s philosophy and delivered one of its most powerful messages to major AI companies: “The war against big tech has just begun.”
