The building’s name references both its location and a famous moment in AI research history. This is a tribute to the pivotal move “Move 37” made by Google DeepMind’s AlphaGo system during a match with 2016 Go World Champion Lee Sedol.
This move was initially considered a mistake by human experts, but later proved to be strategically important and contributed to AlphaGo’s victory. This moment is widely seen as marking the beginning of a new phase in AI research and development.

AI Exchange: A public space for exploring AI
Alongside the new office space, Google will launch The AI Exchange, a public area on the ground floor of Platform 37.
This space is designed for visitors to learn about artificial intelligence and engage in discussions about how the technology is shaping society.
According to Google, AI Exchange will host a variety of activities, including free educational programs, interactive exhibits, and cultural events focused on artificial intelligence and its broader impact.

Platform 37 was designed by architects Thomas Heatherwick and Bjarke Ingels and represents one of Google’s most ambitious architectural projects in Europe.
The structure uses low-carbon building materials and incorporates energy-efficient systems aimed at reducing environmental impact.
Architecturally, the building features a “suspended” structure that creates column-free internal workspaces. Google says this design allows the internal environment to adapt as the team grows and research priorities change.
