Meta has launched its first AI-powered video editing capabilities, deploying it directly within existing platforms. For now, the tool is limited to a set of pre-made styles.

The new video tools are available in the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website, and the newly released editing app (positioned as an alternative to cupcuts) in the US and “over 12 other countries.”

Over 50 ready-made styles

At launch, this feature will provide over 50 preset prompts. With just a few clicks, users can convert videos into cloudscapes, cute scenes, teddy bear worlds, underwater environments and more. Later this year, Meta said users can enter their own text prompts instead of choosing from the menu.

Meta offers the first 10 seconds of video editing for free, but only for a limited amount of time. The company has not said how long the trial will last or what pricing will be after launch.

Meta is targeting content creators and says that they have developed useful effects in collaboration with them. By integrating the tools with the editing app, Meta aims to streamline functionality into existing creative workflows.

Edited videos can be posted directly to Facebook or Instagram from within the app. Through Meta AI, users can also share clips in Discover Feed.

Meta models can do more

According to Meta, the new tool has been “inspired” by the film Gen models released in October 2024, but it has not been confirmed whether those models are right behind the feature. The film Gen was a meta-study demonstration that it could technically compete with rapidly moving rivals such as Openai Sora, Runway, Kling, and Pika Labs.

Google's VEO 3 has recently sparked a wave of interest with the ability to create not only photorealistic video clips but also audio track matching. Meta's film generals can do the same in theory, but Meta takes a more careful approach in its release development. Recently, Charition.ai, which has evolved into a kind of social network for synthetic content, has also added video functionality.
