“MSL is hiring in Singapore! We already have great researchers and engineers in Singapore, and are growing rapidly, supported by a 100-strong Manus team,” Wang said in a post on X. Mr Wang also encouraged people interested in these roles to apply directly. “If you are interested, please DM me with your resume!” he added.
Meta cuts 600 employees
The hiring announcement follows reports from multiple media outlets on November 22 that Meta plans to lay off approximately 600 employees from its artificial intelligence division. The Wall Street Journal reported, citing an internal memo, that the decision was aimed at streamlining operations. “Reducing the size of our team reduces the conversations needed to make decisions, increases the burden on each individual, and allows us to have more reach and influence,” Wang wrote in the memo.
The layoffs were expected to impact teams working on AI products, infrastructure and long-term research. However, the memo clarified that the layoffs will not affect TBD Labs, which is home to many of the units where Mr. Zuckerberg recently spent millions of dollars hiring AI talent. Wang also said at the time that there were no changes to the broader structure of the Meta Superintelligence Lab, which was established in the summer as part of an overhaul of Meta's AI strategy. Despite the layoffs, the company plans to continue hiring.
