Pablo Martinez, Kia's head of customer experience design, said in a statement to TechCrunch that the large-scale language model (LLM) behind the company's AI assistant is OpenAI's ChatGPT. But that has “changed significantly,” he said.

The AI-powered voice assistant in the EV3 SUV is an enhancement of the voice assistant technology that debuted in the company's compact sedan, the Kia K4. The voice assistant gave customers new ways to interact with and control their vehicle's built-in features. By integrating generative AI into the technology, Kia's voice assistant can now have more natural conversations with users.
According to Kia, the AI voice assistant will allow users to utilize generative characteristics to plan trips, control the vehicle's entertainment system and search for information. Kia said the integration of generative AI into the voice assistant will begin with the EV3 model and will later be rolled out to the company's other EVs.
The Kia EV3, equipped with the ChatGPT-powered AI assistant, will go on sale in the company's home country in July, followed by Europe “later this year.” TechCrunch reported that Kia plans to expand sales of the EV3 model to other regions, but there has been no official confirmation from the company.
