AI-based deepfakes use AI algorithms to create fabricated video or audio recordings that convincingly mimic real individuals. These scams often use facial reconstruction techniques, where AI technology maps one person’s facial movements onto another person’s face in a video or audio recording. The result is a highly realistic fake video or audio clip that can trick unsuspecting victims. Scammers use deepfakes to impersonate trusted individuals and use their acquaintances and connections to manipulate victims into sharing sensitive information or transferring money.
