Finding out the price of small business insurance required answering a long list of questions across multiple touchpoints before contacting someone who could give you a number. On Thursday (April 23), Simply Business compressed that process into three data points within a ChatGPT conversation.
Simply Business, a digital insurance marketplace for small businesses and a subsidiary of The Traveler Companies, has launched a business insurance app within ChatGPT in the US, connecting the platform’s conversational interface to its pricing engine. Small business owners can receive indicative pricing by entering their industry, estimated annual revenue and postal code, and are directed to the Simply Business website to complete a full quote and purchase insurance. No personally identifiable information is collected within the ChatGPT interface.
This announcement marks a tangible shift in how artificial intelligence (AI) intersects with insurance revenue. Previous developments in this area have focused on claims processing, underwriting models, and customer support. This implementation brings AI into the quote stage and directly into sales.
Listed as a new distribution gateway
Insurance sales have traditionally been done through agents, brokers, and direct channels. Business owners looking for coverage find their insurance company’s website, fill out a form, wait for a callback, or talk to a broker. Intentions were formed somewhere. The transaction occurred elsewhere.
The Simply Business app can be found in ChatGPT’s App Directory and may appear as a recommendation when users ask questions related to business risk or insurance, the company said. This arrangement captures intent in the moment it was formed, within the interface that small business owners already use to research, plan, and make decisions. To create a quote, you don’t have to go to another platform first.
“Small business owners are already using platforms like ChatGPT to research, plan, and make decisions. By safely bringing insurance pricing into that environment, we remove another barrier between small business owners and the coverage they need,” said Dana Edwards, group CTO at Simply Business, in the company’s announcement.

This model keeps ChatGPT firmly at the top of the funnel. Prices are indicative and non-binding. Complete quoting and purchasing takes place on the Simply Business platform. Insurers retain control over pricing and policy issuance, while AI interfaces handle discovery and first-touch engagement.
Workflow compression
The announcement builds on the hyper-personalized, AI-powered advisor that Simply Business rolled out in the U.S. in October, which aims to make the insurance buying process faster and more intuitive by tailoring recommendations to small businesses’ profiles and risk characteristics, the company said. ChatGPT’s integration extends that strategy to third-party platforms, where potential customers are already active.
This compression is important to your bottom line. A citation process that begins and ends within a single conversation reduces friction between intent and commitment. A small business owner who inquires about liability coverage from ChatGPT and receives a reference price in the same exchange is further up the buying funnel than a small business owner who gets a link to their website.
Simply Business serves more than 1 million customers in the U.S. and U.K. and offers general liability, professional liability, employer policies, workers’ compensation and cyber insurance through a digital marketplace that matches small businesses with coverage from multiple carriers, the company said.
The broader context of this announcement is an industry that has spent decades modernizing without fundamentally changing how customers enter the purchasing process.
The insurance industry has been trying to go digital for more than two decades, but the average insurer still only captures about 40% of the claims that come through its doors, with the rest stale or rejected by default, according to PYMNTS. Moving price quotes to conversational AI interfaces puts digitalization at the forefront.
