Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Nezar Patria said here on Monday that the evaluation results of Indonesia's Readiness Assessment Methodology for Artificial Intelligence (RAM AI) will be available by mid-2024.

He said RAM AI is a recent assessment carried out by UNESCO in member countries to measure AI governance readiness.

“Currently we are undergoing an evaluation and the results are expected around the end of June or early July,” he said.

He added that by introducing RAM AI, the Indonesian government has demonstrated a strong commitment towards building safe and responsible AI governance.

He said Indonesia has been undergoing an assessment since March 2024 and is still ongoing. The evaluation will last approximately 3-4 months, so the results of his RAM AI in Indonesia are expected to be known by mid-2024.

The results will reflect Indonesia's readiness to adopt AI technologies, with indicators ranging from technology readiness, community readiness, and legal device readiness.

“It (RAM AI) is a good step for us (Indonesia) to be able to enter the global AI ecosystem governance. Then Indonesia can become part of the globally recognized AI governance system. ” he said.

In terms of supporting the responsible use and safety of AI, Indonesia has developed guidelines in the form of Ministerial Circular No. 9 of 2023 on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.

Meanwhile, at the 2024 AI Ethics Global Forum, Indonesia expressed its readiness to bridge discussions on AI ethics with countries in ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region.
Patria added that Indonesia is committed to playing a leading role in the bilateral dialogue between countries on RAM AI.
