Google has announced that the latest VEO 3 video generation model is available to free users, but only for a limited time. In particular, Google first introduced VEO 3 in May at its I/O 2025 developer meeting, and while the tool was only available to paid users, there was still a major trend on social media platforms where users generate videos like Life.
The model is now available to free users via the Gemini app until 10pm on Sundays or 10:30am on Mondays. Google Gemini chief Josh Woodward said Thursday that it was setting a “TPU load” before offering users the models for free.
As part of the weekend trial, Google is allowing three free video generations via the VEO 3 FAST model. The VEO 3 high speed model is faster than the standard model, but can produce up to 720p resolution video with a slightly lower visual quality of 8 seconds.
How to generate a video using VEO 3? –
- Open the Gemini app on your mobile phone or website.
- In the search bar, click on the 3 dot menu.
- You will now see a new option to generate videos in VEO. Tap it to start generating free videos.
- You will be asked to provide detailed details about the Veo 3 scene. Imagine or add photos to bring life to video models.
You need to explain the scene in detail and list the visual style and music you will need for the video. A standout feature of VEO 3 is that users can also generate synchronous audio and create it for the video. To make the most of that feature, it is ideal to add details such as background music style, timing signaling, mood, and even character dialogue.
Once you have provided all the details to the chatbot, an 8-second video should take a few minutes to generate.
If you feel that your motivation is low, here are some sample prompts to get started.
“The Knight in Silver Armor walks through the enchanting forest of mist at dawn, with fireflies shining around him. 4K style from the film, slow tracking shots.
“The busy Mumbai streets during the rains of monsoon, people rushing with umbrellas, taxis flying poodles. Visual style: movies with visual, dramatic lighting, background music: soft sitar with rhythmic tabla beats.
