Google Vids was made available in beta to Google Workspace users on Monday. The company's latest artificial intelligence (AI) video and presentation creation tool was first unveiled at the annual Google Cloud Next event in April. Unlike standard AI video generators, Vids is touted to be able to create storyboards that can be edited using a variety of input formats. Currently, the platform is only available to users who sign up for Workspace Labs. The tech giant hasn't revealed a date for its global launch.
Google Vids comes to Workspace Labs
The announcement was made in a post by Google Docs Community Manager Karan S. The post read, “We're excited to bring Google Vids to Workspace Labs. Vids is an AI-powered video creation app designed for work and deeply integrated with the Workspace suite you use every day.” The platform can be accessed here.
Powered by Gemini AI, Google Vids can create professional video presentations, but it requires user input at multiple steps to generate the desired content. To get started, users simply enter what they're looking for in the text prompt. For example, by entering the prompt “product launch presentation,” Gemini will generate a storyboard with an outline of the video. It will also generate titles for each section of the video.
If this seems too unreliable, users can also choose one of the many templates on the platform and proceed directly to the storyboard stage. One unique thing about Google Vids is that it also accepts Google Docs, Slides, videos, audio recordings, and more. Adding these gives the AI more context for the flow of the final video.
The storyboard allows edits like changing the title, changing the order of sections, adding or removing tiles, etc. The user then has to select a style, based on which Gemini designs a video with stock videos, images, text, background music, and even a generated script. However, the user still has the option to make further edits like adding a narration or changing elements of the video.
