GenAI video platform Artlist launches holiday short “First Flight”

AI Video & Visuals

Holiday magic meets technology trends first flighta new AI-generated interpretation of the animated Christmas tradition. This spot was created as a showcase for Artlist (artlist.io), an online platform for video creators that hosts a suite of AI tools for video, images, and audio, as well as creative assets created by artists around the world.

The movie centers on a small fawn who wants to grow up to be as big, strong, and graceful as the rest of the reindeer herd. After lots of practice and embracing the magic of the season, he finally takes off for his first Christmas.

Artlist wanted to create a film that showcased both how genAI tools enable small teams to create projects that were previously reserved for large studios, and the potential for emotional storytelling using controversial technology.

“This two-minute video about a fawn who dared to dream was created to show that AI tools, like any other creative tool, can tell stories that move people,” said Sharon 'Thales' Refael, Director of Creative AI at Artlist. “It shows that coherence, emotion and storytelling are possible, and that creators now have the autonomy to say, 'I have an idea' and start working on it the same day. What once required the resources of the world's largest animation studios, months of work and huge budgets, is now within reach.”

According to the platform: first flight It was created in less than a month by a team of just three people on a budget of less than $3,000, all using AI tools. The AI production pipeline utilized Kling AI for physics and realistic motion. Nano Banana Pro delivers character consistency and facial animation.

“Many of today's conversations focus on the technology itself, whether it's AI or not, but we wanted to show that it's just another tool. A tool that allows creators to bring their ideas to life faster and more affordably than ever before. Technology alone can't connect video with an audience. Storytelling can,” added Refael. “There is a lot of resistance to AI-generated content, but that resistance is often misplaced. What really matters is how you tell the story – how you create emotion, generate interest and get people engaged. This technology simply opens up new possibilities and faster processes, but everything still revolves around storytelling.”
