Equals Money | Railsr partners with identity and access management provider Okta to strengthen security and governance across AI-enabled payments infrastructure.

FinTech processes approximately $50 billion in payment volume annually, much of it through API-driven embedded financial services used by B2B2X customers. The company said that as AI adoption accelerates across payments and cross-border workflows, identity and access management has become a critical layer of control to monitor both human and machine activity. Equals has been using Okta and its Auth0 platform for the past 16 months to support this change.

The move reflects broader challenges facing fintechs as AI becomes integrated into core operations. AI agents are being deployed to automate functions such as onboarding, reservations, and payments, but they also introduce new risk vectors. At the same time, account takeover attacks are on the rise as AI tools lower the barrier for cybercriminals, while uncontrolled use of AI by employees is creating new “shadow AI” risks similar to those seen during the rise of shadow IT.

Equals uses Auth0 to manage customer identities and the Okta platform for employee identities, access control, and AI governance. This approach allows companies to monitor behavioral patterns, enforce role-based access, and identify unauthorized AI use across internal and customer-facing systems. Security measures include behavioral anomaly detection, passkey and multi-factor authentication support, and controls designed to maintain ease of use for non-technical users.

James Simcox, Equals Money | Chief Operations and Product Officer Railser, said, “At Equals, we want to focus on building and innovating financial products that are faster and more seamless while keeping our customers’ accounts secure. They will soon be participating in the payment process, asking agents to find and automatically pay for their flights and hotels. But with this opportunity comes new risks. Okta gives us the guardrails to accomplish all of this. By integrating both products, you can now manage interactions across your ecosystem. ”

Equals' partnership with Okta underscores the increasing focus across the FinTech sector on balancing AI-driven innovation with enhanced security, visibility, and risk management as automation becomes more autonomous by embedding identity management and behavioral monitoring across the payments stack.
