In today's rapidly evolving technology landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) stand as pillars of innovation, reshaping industries and revolutionizing the way we live and work. From healthcare to transportation, education to environmental protection, the applications of AI/ML are limitless, offering unprecedented opportunities for efficiency, personalization, and sustainability. Indiatoday.in interviews Mr. Ansh Shankar, his B.tech CSE from AIML and shares his journey. Uncover the profound impact of AI and ML across a variety of sectors and uncover the transformative potential these technologies hold for the future.
What inspired you to pursue a career in AI and machine learning? Was there a particular moment or experience that ignited your passion for this field?
My passion for AI and machine learning was ignited during my undergraduate years at Galgotias University, where I was exposed to the transformative potential of these technologies through various courses and projects. It was my first internship at Infosys that solidified my interest. There, I was able to apply machine learning techniques to real-world data and see first-hand the impact and efficiency they can have.
How do you envision the evolving role of AI/ML in healthcare, transportation, education, and other fields?
I imagine AI and ML will continue to revolutionize the industry by making processes more intelligent and efficient. In healthcare, AI has the potential to personalize patient care and improve diagnosis. In transportation, self-driving cars have the potential to improve safety and efficiency. In education, AI can help close the educational gap by providing personalized learning experiences and making quality resources available to everyone.
You have published and presented research papers at prestigious conferences such as IEEE. Can you explain the motivation behind this project and its potential real-world applications?
The motivation behind my research projects, which are presented at conferences such as IEEE, often revolve around addressing real-world challenges or pushing the boundaries of existing technology. Ta. For example, a project might apply it to market research or customer feedback analysis to improve the accuracy of sentiment analysis of social media data. My research on “Plastic Detection Using Satellite Image Analysis” was motivated by the urgent need to address environmental pollution. Witnessing numerous sustainability projects on campus deepened my commitment to solving real-world environmental and climate problems. Using AI to analyze satellite imagery can identify plastic buildups in remote areas, support cleanup efforts, and provide data for environmental policy changes. The project, presented at the IEEE conference, has potential applications in environmental monitoring and conservation strategies.
Galgotias University is known for its focus on emerging technologies. Since university focuses on hands-on learning and industry exposure, how did it prepare you for internships and research work?
Galgotias University's emphasis on experiential learning and industry exposure is crucial in preparing me for internships and research work. Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders, the university has seamlessly bridged the gap between academia and industry. Aligning the curriculum with industry requirements and organizing workshops, training sessions, internships, projects, competitions, expert talks and a mentor-mentee model have all contributed to a holistic approach. This 360-degree strategy equips students with enough practical skills and industry insights to excel in their internships and research endeavors. The practical experience gained through these initiatives not only honed my technical abilities but also gave me the confidence to effectively tackle real-world challenges.
Your project on “Plastic Detection Using Satellite Image Analysis” is interesting. Can you tell us more about the motivation behind this project and its potential real-world applications?
The motivation for this project arose from the global challenge of plastic waste management. AI can be used to analyze satellite images to detect and monitor plastic waste in water vapor. This technology not only helps in efficient waste management but also helps in assessing the effectiveness of policies implemented to combat plastic pollution.
Do you have any memorable experiences or learnings from your internships at companies like Infosys, Tata Power, and Amazon?
One of the things that stood out to me during my internship at Infosys was diving into the world of machine learning optimization for results analysis systems. The sheer scale of the data required us to think creatively, pushing the boundaries of efficiency and scalability. It was like stepping into a technology thriller, where every line of code felt like a scene from a blockbuster movie. Seeing my solution in action and seeing its real-world impact was an unforgettable thrill. These moments fuel my passion for innovation and drive me to push boundaries.
How many companies have you visited campus specifically for job hunting in AI/ML or related domains? How many job offers have you received in total from which companies?
During our final year at Galgotias University, we witnessed many technology giants and startups visiting our campus. Recognizing the broad applicability of the technology beyond traditional technology companies, companies from a variety of industries have been adopted for AI/ML. I was fortunate to receive multiple job offers from reputed companies such as Celebal, Happiest Minds Technologies, and Mai Labs Private Limited, which gave me many opportunities to start my professional career. .
What are your goals and aspirations for the future? Considering the competitiveness in the field, what advice would you give to aspiring students who want to make a mark in the field of AI and machine learning? will you do?
My future goal is to continue to contribute to the advancement of AI and machine learning through research, industry projects, and educational initiatives. We encourage ambitious students to be curious, adaptable, and open to continuous learning while developing a strong foundation in mathematics, programming, and problem solving. Networking, participating in relevant projects and competitions, and seeking mentorship can also greatly increase your chances in this competitive field.
