What if we could write our own episodes of a hit show without a crew or camera? That's exactly what a San Francisco startup called Fable is aiming to become a new artificial intelligence platform, Showrunner.
Amazon is currently supporting the Alexa fund. The exact amount of investment has not been revealed, but Amazon's involvement shows that it will raise interest in AI-powered entertainment. Fable describes the showrunner as “AI's Netflix.” This is where anyone can type in a few words and generate an episode instantly.

Hollywood relies on AI tools to rewire the magic of movies

A new era of user-generated entertainment
Instead of passively watching the show, showrunners invite users to co-create. You can build episodes from scratch or dive into a world that someone else has started. It's all done in text: just explain the scene or story, and AI works. The company officially launched in Exit Valley, a satirical, animated series set in a fictional technology hub called Sim Francisco. Think about Family Guy. But aim for Silicon Valley Titans like Elon Musk and Sam Altman. It's edgy, interesting and completely powered by AI. If you're interested, please visit the Showrunner website. Episodes are streamed and new ones are directed towards a Discord server where they are created in real time.

Supported by Big Tech, led by VR veterans
Fable CEO Edward Saatchi has a history of pushing boundaries. Before launching Fable, he co-founded Oculus Story Studios, a division of Oculus VR, acquired by Meta. His latest mission: Turning Hollywood from one-way broadcasts to two-way conversations.
“The Hollywood streaming service looks like it will be two-way entertainment,” Search told Variety. “The audience can create new episodes in a few words and become characters in the photos.”
That vision is already beginning to take shape. Fable previously released an episode of South Park generated by nine AIs that have earned over 80 million views. These episodes were created with the company's own AI engine and tweaked for animated storytelling.

Why animation comes first
Currently, Showrunner focuses entirely on animated content, and that's not a coincidence. According to Saatchi, AI handles AI much easier than photorealistic videos. Tech giants like Meta, Openai and Google are racing to create realistic AI videos, but Fable is escaping the battlefield. Instead, startups want to provide everyday users with the tools to become writers, directors and even stars of their shows. All you need is a little imagination and a few lines of text.
What does this mean to you?
Whether you're a writer, an animation fan or an AI-interested person, this shift opens the door to a whole new kind of entertainment. You no longer need a Hollywood budget to tell the story. If you have a creative idea, you can quickly make it happen and share it with the community who is doing the same thing. Showrunners not only consume it, but also provide the power to shape pop culture. You can also remix existing episodes or dive into an AI-generated world with your own twist.
