BEIJING, Feb. 11 — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday called for comprehensive promotion of technological innovation, industrial growth and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to cultivate new high-quality production capacity and promote high-quality development.
Li made the remarks while presiding over a State Council group study group focused on AI development.
Li said China needs to accurately understand the trends in AI development, encourage breakthroughs across the chain, and facilitate widespread implementation in different scenarios to unlock the technology’s potential in an improved way.
Mr. Lee encouraged efforts to develop forward-looking strategies for new technologies and pathways, advance large-scale commercial applications, better coordinate key resources from data to computing power and power supplies, expand international technology exchanges, and strengthen AI governance by improving laws, policy frameworks, application standards, and ethical guidelines.
In addition, China needs to build an open and inclusive environment and cultivate a larger multi-skilled talent pool, Li said.
Zhou Bowen, director of the Shanghai Institute of Artificial Intelligence, gave an explanation at the session. Ding Xuexiang, Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing, and State Councilor Wu Zhenglong also participated in the discussions.
