Guwahati: Assam police have arrested a man who has allegedly slandered and harassed her by creating a fake social media account for influencer Akhita Pukan and uploading images and videos generated by her morphing and artificial intelligence.
Defendant Pratim Bora was arrested from Dibragal, Upper Assam, on Saturday evening, on the basis of the complaint. He and the victim know each other, police said.
“We received a complaint that the video circulating on social media has changed and is being generated by AI. The complainant was sharing a link to an Instagram page. They tracked their credentials and found their phone number. Dibragal Police Director Sizal Agarwal told the media.
During the investigation, the victim told police that she and the accused had studied together at university. The accused was subsequently arrested.
According to the SP, the accused created a web page and uploaded AI-generated pornographic content. Access is subscription-based and through this mode he made about 10 Rs.
“He mainly did it for personal reasons to cause harassment to the victim,” SP said, “She's not in good mental state because it was widely distributed and covered. She needs counseling. We need it.”
