New Delhi: Quick commerce and e-commerce companies are showing strong interest in deploying artificial intelligence (AI)-driven video intelligence solutions to protect margins, improve compliance and bring consistency across large networks of dark stores, according to AIVID AI.

The Gujarat-based company offers a video AI platform with a focus on operational intelligence.

The report said a surge in customer order volumes on quick commerce and e-commerce platforms is putting pressure on operators due to lower profit margins, more perishable inventory and tighter regulations.

The company added that dark store operators now require AI intelligence in addition to their existing CCTV infrastructure to transform live and recorded video into structured, real-time insights.

“Most dark stores already have cameras, but cameras alone don’t give you the answer,” said Dhaval Vora, co-founder and CEO of AIVID.AI. “Video analytics allows us to see problems when they occur, such as poor hygiene, inefficient picking, or issues with handling perishables, before they result in losses.”

According to HSBC, the total number of dark stores has surged from around 1,800 at the end of FY24 to more than 4,000 by FY25 due to rapid deployment by players such as Blinkit, Swiggy’s Instamart and Zepto.

The brokerage predicted that this footprint could grow to around 5,000-5,500 dark stores by the end of FY26 as the platform moves deeper into cities and towns.
