As a work that combines cutting-edge theory and practical value in the educational field, Artificial Intelligence + Education: Application Development Theory and Practice It aims to enable educators to confidently address the core challenges of digitalizing and intelligentizing education. The author of this book is Dr. Feng Xiang, an associate researcher at the School of Education and Information Technology, East China Normal University (ECNU).
At the theoretical level, Dr. Feng Xiang will introduce Shannon’s communication theory and provide an in-depth analysis of the new interaction model of “encoding” and “decoding” in education in the era of human-AI symbiosis. At a practical level, the book provides a detailed analysis of typical educational software application scenarios, such as learner modeling, adaptive learning path recommendation, and affective computing.
To break down development barriers, this book specifically looks at low-code and no-code development approaches. Practical tools like App Inventor and Orange make it easy for educators and students without a computer science background to build intelligent educational applications. At the same time, rather than avoiding the risks associated with technology, the book critically reflects on ethical dilemmas such as data privacy violations, algorithmic bias, and disregard for humanitarian values. The author argues that future human resource development should comprehensively shift to “meta-knowledge, meta-thinking, and meta-cognition” in response to the cognitive effects of generative AI.
This book is not only a guide to technological development, but also an enlightening exploration of the future of education in the symbiosis of humans and AI.
Dr. Feng Xiang received his Ph.D. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in computer applications at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Alcatel Shanghai Bell. He currently serves as an associate researcher and supervisor for the master’s program. He is affiliated with the Shanghai Digital Educational Equipment Engineering Research Center and the Faculty of Educational Information Technology at ECNU. He also serves as a member of the Educational Technology Subcommittee of the National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee and Deputy Secretary General of the Expert Committee on Information Technology Education in Elementary and Secondary Schools (8th and 9th Council) of the Chinese Educational Association.
Dr. Feng Xiang has been passionately engaged in research in the field of educational informatization. In recent years, we have focused on key areas such as AI applications in education, learning analytics, AI and programming education in K-12 schools, and digitalization of education. He has led and participated in several major national and local level research projects related to AI in education. He has published more than 30 academic papers in major national and international journals and major international conferences indexed by SCI, SSCI, EI, CSSCI, and has obtained 3 national invention patents and more than 10 software copyrights.
