The new fund targets generational AI opportunities with a unique approach supported by industry veterans
Alumni Ventures, one of the world's most active venture capital companies, has announced the launch of the AI First Fund, designed to capture opportunities arising from the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence. The fund focuses on AI-Native startups built around language models, autonomous agents, unique data, promising groundbreaking innovations and new business models.
“We're similar to the internet-like inflection point of the 1990s, and mobile in the 2000s,” says Mike Collins, founder and CEO of the alumni association. “AI-first companies represent generational opportunities for investors. They are not renovating existing models. They are supporting bold founders who are restructuring their industry from day one.”

The AI First Fund covers four major themes:
- AI's first work: Improve productivity with generated copilots and autonomous AI agents.
- First AI Discovery: Accelerate scientific breakthroughs through virtual simulations and digital twins with AI.
- AI First Industry: Integrate vertically specific AI to translate client-oriented and operational workflows.
- AI's first infrastructure: Build critical components in the AI economy, including hardware and software infrastructure.
“History is often reflected in each wave of innovation,” said Ray Wu, managing partner at Alumni Ventures. “Our participation in the previous technological revolution is clear that the AI age will have important transformative consequences. Our strategy leverages our own trading flow, support for full-stack startups, and partnerships with key co-investments to identify and nurture AI-Native companies poised for success.”
Alumni's unique approaches include tapping on an extensive alumni network of doctoral degrees, experienced founders and accelerator alumni, discovering AI talent early. The company also provides comprehensive support to startups from market strategy and community access to strategic partnerships with major venture companies such as Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst and NEA.
The AI First Fund is based on Alumni Ventures' achievements, highlighted by investments in outstanding AI startups such as Lambda Labs, Cohere, Patlytics and Precision Neuroscience, which highlight the company's commitment and expertise in the AI domain.
