AI video incorrectly shows Air Chief Marshal Dixit admitted Rafale losses

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS) The Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-checking wing on Thursday issued a stern warning regarding AI-generated deepfake videos being circulated on social media, mainly by Pakistani propaganda accounts.

The doctored footage falsely depicts Air Marshal Ashutosh Dikshit making highly inflammatory and false political statements regarding the loss of Indian Air Force (IAF) Rafale fighter jets.

The doctored clip attempts to sow distrust and division by putting words in the mouth of the Air Force commander. “Yes, we lost the Rafale jets in May. That’s really our strength is that we learn fast…The more jets we lose, the smarter we get.”

This fabricated statement is a complete lie and is aimed at undermining confidence in the Indian Army.

PIB investigation revealed that the viral video is a digitally altered version of the original speech given by Air Chief Marshal Dixit.

In the real footage, the senior officer did not mention the loss of the jet. Instead, it focused on advances in electronic warfare and cyber resilience, highlighting the technical and strategic lessons learned from Operation Sindoor.

The Air Force commander’s actual and verified statements focused on operational success and information warfare. “Operation Sindur also taught us the value of electronic warfare and cyber resilience. We were able to disrupt hostile communications, blind enemy surveillance radars, and eliminate enemy drones. All thanks to innovative solutions by Indian industry and academia…”

He further emphasized the importance of the “cognitive domain,” saying that “winning the cognitive battle in the media, public perception, and morale is as important as guns and rockets.”

This incident highlights the urgent need for digital vigilance in the face of rapidly advancing AI misinformation technology.

“Several Pakistani propaganda agents are disseminating a false ‘fabricated video’ of Air Force Commander Ashutosh Dikshit making political statements about the loss of the Rafale aircraft,” PIB Fact Check reported in X.

“Don’t be fooled by AI-generated lies aimed at sowing mistrust and division. Stay vigilant. Don’t forward such fake content. Always rely on official sources for verified updates,” it added.
