Lucknow/IBNS: Six people, including a head constable of the Government Railway Police (GRP), have been arrested for allegedly being part of a gym-based syndicate involved in forced conversions in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, according to media reports.

According to police, the defendant used AI to extort women, targeting around 30 women and forcing them to convert using obscene videos and images generated by the AI.

The syndicate is believed to have been active since 2021.

Most of the victims were Hindu women, investigators said. AI-generated videos and photos recovered from the defendant are cited as key evidence in the case.

Those arrested were GRP Chief Constable Irshad Khan (40), gym owner and trainer Mohammad Sheikh Ali Alam (31), Faisal Khan (34), Zaheer (32), Shadab (36) and Farid Ahmed (28).

Farid Ahmed, believed to be the owner of one of the gyms, was arrested after the encounter and suspected of firing a gun during the police raid, officials said.

GRP constables are accused of providing logistical support and protection to the gang. Police said the incident came to light after two women filed separate complaints earlier this month.

All five gyms operated by the group have been placed on lockdown until February 27 as part of the ongoing investigation.
